NF Railway serves notice to land occupants

By Correspondent

DHEMAJI, Nov 2 - The Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway, Rangia division has issued show cause notice to more than 150 families, who are occupying railway land at Murkongselek (Jonai) in Dhemaji district bordering Arunachal Pradesh.

The Estate Officer of NF Railway, Rangia division has issued the notice in pursuance of sub-section (1) of section 4 of the Public Premise (Eviction of unauthorised occupants) Act 1971 and called upon the encroachers to appear at office of the Divisional Railway Manager (W), Rangia on November 5 to reply to queries regarding occupation of railway land.

The order also warned the respondents that if they fail to appear before the official on the fixed date and time, the cases will be decided ex-parte.

It is said that many families are illegally occupying railway land, erecting temporary and permanent structures but now the Railway department requires the land for development works. Earlier on October 25 this year, the NF Railway gave them an opportunity to submit evidence in support of the cause regarding occupation of railway land near rail stations in Jonai.

As per report, more than 500 families are settled on both sides of Murkongselek (MZS) station illegally occupying railway land thereby creating hurdles for the NF Railway in implementing development projects.

Murkongselek is the last BG station of NF Railway in North Assam, which enters Arunachal Pradesh through Ruksin area in East Siang district.
