By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, June 8 - The NF Railway Mazdoor Union today observed protest day against freezing of dearness allowance and privatisation of PSUs.

At the call of the All India Railwaymens Federation, NF Railway Mazdoor Union from Dibrugarh to Katihar observed awareness week from June 1 to 6, followed by protest day today by unfurling black flags and wearing black badges, said Rakhal Das Gupta, general secretary, NF Railway Mazdoor Union in a press statement.

The statement said that at a time when the railwaymen are working round the clock to carry essential commodities and run Shramik Special and other trains, it was really sad that the government had taken such a decision. The decision would badly affect the economic condition of railwaymen in addition to causing them mental disturbance, the statement added.

The Mazdoor Union also registered its protest against the Centres decision to privatise railway train services, defence factories, coal, oilfields, mines and other public sector undertakings.

Meanwhile, the Assam State Committee of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) will stage a protest on July 3 against several steps taken by the Centre during the Covid-19 pandemic like the proposed Electricity Amendment Bill, 2020, increase in working hours from 8 hours to 12 hours a day and privatisation of PSUs, said Ramen Das, general secretary of AITUCs Assam unit.
