GUWAHATI, Aug 7 - In view of the ensuing Independence Day celebrations, the Maligaon-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has beefed up security measures across all Railway installations in the zone.

Senior NFR officials said additional forces have been deployed at vital points and surveillance has been ramped up to ensure that antisocial and terrorist elements are not able to create any mischief.

Security has been strengthened. Additional forces have been deployed, including the RPF, GRP and CRPF at stations, tracks and other Railway areas, said an official.

He added that at the Guwahati Railway Station, the busiest station in the State, scanner machines are being used to check baggage, CCTV monitoring of platforms is being done and manual frisking, wherever necessary, has been undertaken.

Besides, dog squads have been deployed at various stations in the State and across the North Eastern zone, including the Guwahati and Kamakhya railway stations. Stations and platforms are under constant surveillance. Track patrolling is being done between various stations at regular intervals, the official said.

Security inside moving trains has also been strengthened with armed squads of RPF personnel.

The RPF and GRP are coordinating security with their counterparts in the CRPF and State Police, he said.

Asked about services, he said the NFR is maintaining regular services of all its trains and so far, there is no plan to cancel any trains.
