NF Railway adds berths to some trains

GUWAHATI, June 2 - In line with the effort to provide more berths to passengers of the north-eastern region, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has augmented the capacity of some trains on a permanent basis by adding various types of coaches.

�These passenger trains are presently running with full capacity. Additional coaches will also enable more local people of this region to travel in them, thereby providing a low-cost option of travelling in short-distance destinations,� Pranav Jyoti Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the Maligaon-headquartered NF Railway, said.

He said that one AC three-tier coach has been added in the 55615/55616 Guwahati-Silchar-Guwahati fast passenger train, thus resulting in creation of 64 additional AC berths.

In addition, three general second class coaches have been added each in the 55803/55804 passenger, the 55809/55810 passenger and the 55817/55818 passenger trains running between New Bongaigaon and Guwahati. These led to a total of 270 numbers of additional seats being made available in the three passenger trains.

The NFR has also added four general second class coaches each in the 55893/55894 passenger and the 55895/55896 passenger trains running between Rangapara and Rangiya, thus creating 360 new seats.

Besides, four general second class coaches and one luggage van each have been added in the 55681/55682 passenger and the 55683/55684 passenger trains running between Agartala and Garjee. Together they account for 400 new seats now been additionally available for passengers of these trains.

Sharma said that one general second class coach has been added in the 55679/55680 passenger train running between Agartala and Dharmanagar.

�So, 90 seats are now additionally available for passengers of this train,� he said.

The NFR has added one AC three-tier coach in the 15715/15716 Kishanganj-Ajmer Garib Nawaj Express train, thus making available 64 additional AC berths.

In addition, one AC three-tier coach has been added in the 15721/15722 New Jalpaiguri-Digha Express train, with 64 additional AC berths now available for passengers of this train.

�The NFR has been adding coaches, both on permanent as well as on temporary basis, depending on demand and feasibility. These are in addition to the numerous special trains that are being run to clear rush of passengers. During the last fiscal year of 2018-19, the NFR added 28 coaches on permanent basis in various trains, apart from adding 302 coaches on temporary basis. The addition of these coaches has helped manage the rush of passengers to a great extent,� Sharma said.
