MANGALDAI, May 6 The recent council assembly elections in the four districts of BTAD was significant in many aspects. Most importantly, in the elections, the people of the BTAD area expressed their full support to the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) for the third consecutive term. The other important aspect is that the evil design hatched by a certain group to divide the people of the area with the slogan of so called Non-Bodo and Bodo definition has been rejected totally by the people, as a large section of non-Bodo voters exercised their constitutional right in favour of the BPF, said the newly-elected Member of Council Legislative Assembly from 35 Mudoibari CLAC, Jagadish Sarkar, while taking part in a public felicitation function at Kendukalai Bhavan at Kalaigaon in Udalguri district on Saturday.

Mention may be made here that Sarkar, in view of his election for the second consecutive term, has been appointed as the Executive Member for Transport, Soil Conservation and Cooperation department. He also expressed his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the electorates of the constituency for their overwhelming support to the BPF in spite of some anti-campaign by certain circles.

All sections of the people living in the four districts of the BTAD areas, raised their voice for peace and tranquillity and the all-round development of the area and the BPF is committed for it, he added.

The felicitation function was convened by Kendukalai- a premier voluntary non- government organisation of Kalaigaon and was presided over by eminent cultural activist, social worker and teacher Dhireswar Boro Narzi. The secretary of Kendukalai Dandi Kumar Boro felicitated Jagadish Sarkar with a bihuwan, letter of citation and a phulam japi, while 12 socio-cultural organisations of the locality also felicitated him.

Senior citizen Jiban Deka, mouzadar of Silpota mouza, Kamal Prasad Sarma, activist Hasina Begum, youth activist Puspa Boro also spoke in the function and hoped that being the Executive Member this time, Jagadish Sarkar would be able to undertake development activities of the area. The president of Kendukalai, Bhargab Kumar Das offered the vote of thanks while Inspector Officer in Charge of Kalaigaon Police Station, S Ahmed in his speech highlighted the precautionary measures to be observed during an earthquake or natural disaster.
