Newly-appointed VC of Cultural University visits Majuli island

JORHAT, June 11 - A rousing welcome was offered to the newly-appointed first Vice Chancellor of the Cultural University to be established in Majuli, Dr Dambarudhar Nath at the Kamalabari Ghat, the main entry point to the Brahmaputra island district.

A Majuli district administration source stated that Dr Nath, an eminent educationist, a researcher and a former Professor of Dibrugarh University, was welcomed by a troupe of gayan bayan, Bihu dancers and by a Mising cultural group amidst the presense of a large number of people.

The source informed that Dr Nath on his way to the Shree Shree Pitambar Devagoswami Higher Secondary School to attend a public felicitation was publicly honoured by over 30 organisations at Kamalabari Sariali by presenting him with gamusas, seleng sadors and safuras.

Later, talking to mediapersons at the Majuli Circuit House in Garamur, the Vice Chancellor of the proposed Cultural University disclosed that the varsity is scheduled to start teaching from the middle part of 2020 by opening four departments, the source said.

Dr Nath further said that he will try to make the university a world class one. He said that the university will be a research-centric one along with focus on languages, literature, heritage, religious studies and cultural activities.

Dr Nath also said that there will be provision for learning programmes on foreign languages and cultural affairs and will have students from outside India, the source stated.

The source further said that Dr Nath initially will be operating from a temporary office provided by the administration at the office campus of Majuli Development Block.

It may be mentioned here that Dr Nath is originally from river island Majuli.
