New Zealand cricket officials visit city

GUWAHATI, Sept 19 � New Zealand Cricket (NZC) officials Geoff Allott, Heath Mills and Gary Ashenberg along with BCCI security adviser RK Das visited the city to take stock of arrangements made by the Assam Cricket Association for the forthcoming India-New Zealand ODI scheduled to be held at the Nehru Stadium on November 28.

The NZC officials visited Hotel Nakshyatra, Landmark Hotels and the Nehru Stadium and also held discussions with top Assam Police officials at Landmark Hotels.

Expressing his satisfaction over the arrangements Allott, who is also a former New Zealand national player with experience of 10 Tests and 31 ODIs, said arrangements are satisfactory but some more facilities have to be added for the players at the dressing room.

Allott also revealed that the NZC is giving much importance for this series as it will be the final preparation before the 2011 World Cup. Allott who had been a leading pace bowler in 1990s for his country, said players now need all kind of facilities in every international venues, so the organisers have to make sure that all arrangements are completed well in advance.

NZC security adviser Gary Ashenberger inquired about the security arrangements. He was seen very concerned about the security for the players and team officials during their stay in the city.

Later, IGP (security) GP Singh explained about the security arrangements in and around the Nehru Stadium and hotels through a video presentation. All the NZC officials expressed their satisfaction with the arrangements.

ACA officials Bikash Baruah, Brajen Gohain, Achyut Borthakur, Ghanashyam Baruah accompanied the NZC officials during their visit to various spots and the meeting with police officials. Top police officers IGP (CWR) Pallab Bhattacharyya, SSP City Pradeep Saloi were also present in the meeting along with other officers. Later ACA secretary Bikash Baruah said the Kiwi team will be accommodated at Hotel Nakshyatra.
