New Year ushered in with peace messages

SILCHAR, Jan 2 - Over 130 people of all ages were out on the streets of Silchar to run for peace and welcome the English New Year 2016 on Friday responding to the call given by the district committee of the Journalists� Federation of Assam (JFA).

The rally was flagged off from Rangirkhari point by journalists Taimur Raja Choudhury, Partha Bhattacharjee, Pijush Kanti Das and Uttam Kumar Saha on behalf of the JFA. Other mediapersons also took part in the run which culminated at the DSA Silchar. The first three � Yuvraj Acharjee, Prasenjit Modak and Vishak Dutta were given cash awards by the organizers. Later, a small function was organized at the DSA premises where Badal Dey, president of the association, Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Rajveer Singh and other distinguished persons lauded the effort initiated by the journalist body. In his speech, Rajveer Singh said � it is encouraging to see the scribes stepping out to spread social message for peace outside their role to make people aware about the happenings around the world.�
