New website of Silchar Municipal Board launched

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, July 21 - In a bid to augment the infrastructure and logistic development to achieve the status of the much-hyped smart city, the Silchar Municipal Board formally launched its official website, www.silcharmunicipality.org.in, on Wednesday.

Sharing his views about the development, NN Tagore, chairman of Silchar Civic Board said that the mechanism for a website started in 2014 but was later halted. In his words, after the BJP-led board assumed power in April 2015, the move to come up with a website was given a fresh boost.

To be included in the list of Smart Cities, we lacked two basic requirements the LED lights and an official website of the Civic Board. We had no qualification for both. However, even though we could not make to into the list of the Smart Cities, considering other aspects, we were given the benefit of AMRUT scheme. Recently, we have installed the LED lights and today the website has been launched which will foster e-governance, Tagore claimed.

He was quick to add that a suggestion to incorporate added facilities of a complaint section and SMS facilities in the website has been made to SOFTTHINK, the Kolkata-based firm which has developed the website. Tagore said that besides other facilities, through the SMS option, they can reach out to the tax payers and remind them of their dues.

On the sidelines, the chairperson also informed that the board is taking measures to solve the erratic problem of water-logging and they will write to the government to grant more funds to the board in order to buy machines to clean the exit canals of the city.

Interestingly, responding to a confusion regarding the launch of the website, which according to many is an existing one, Tagore claimed that the board never had any official website so far.
