New VC of Madhabdev University given rousing welcome

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, June 19 - The newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor of Madhabdev University at Lakhimpur�s Narayanpur, Prof Dibakar Chandra Deka was given by a rousing welcome by the fraternity of Madhabdev College on Monday after assuming office. The eminent academician and Head of the Department of Chemistry, Gauhati University was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the Madhabdev University recently as the Madhabdev College was elevated to a university by the State government.

A public reception was organised on the occasion at the auditorium of Madhabdev College where Prof Deka was formally welcomed as the first VC of the newly-founded university. Prof Deka was felicitated by the college students� union, alumni association and the college guardians� union and 80 different organisations. The Principal of Madhabdev College, Dr Sarat Hazarika who has also become the Registrar-in-Charge of the new university, president of the last governing body of Madhabdev College, Rajendra Nath Sabhapandit, Bihpuria MLA Debananda Hazarika and ex-Education minister Premadhar Borah were present in the reception meeting for the Vice-Chancellor.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Deka said that he had been assigned a heavy responsibility by the Governor of Assam, the Chancellor of the university and said that the prime objective of the new university is to eradicate social disparity by quality education and to institutionalise the philosophy and values of Mahapurush Madhabdev. Prof Deka urged all the students, parents and public to extend help and cooperation by reflecting on the perspective, spirit and mission of the newly-founded institute. He also solicited advice and suggestions from the public for the progress and promotion of the university.

Earlier, Prof Dibakar Chandra Deka was received by Madhabdev College representatives and Lakhimpur AASU yesterday morning at Lilabari airport as he arrived here from Guwahati. From there he was escorted to Narayanpur by the organisers.
