AGARTALA, June 30 - In a new twist to the Biswajit Paul murder, Tripura police on Saturday recovered a magazine with five live cartridges from a pond at Milan Chakra, where the BJP ward councillor was shot dead by unknown assailants.
Soon after the murder, police arrested Pranjit Bhowmik, one of the main accused in the case and recovered the revolver and three rounds of ammunition, which was believed to be used in the shooting.
As cops had recovered a revolver with bullets from the same pond a day after the murder of Biswajit, the investigating team is verifying if there is any link between revolver recovery and seizure of magazine.
When contacted, SDPO Ajoy Kumra Das confirmed recovery of one magazine with five live bullets from a pond at Adharsha Palli. We are investigating the murder case of Biswajit and the recovery of five bullets from the same pond, he said.
Biswajit, a medical representative by profession was shot dead by unknown assailants at Adharsha Palli of Milan Chakra area on June 23 midnight. So far, police have arrested three persons Pranjit, Biwajit Dey and Jishu Dey in connection with the murder.
In course of the investigation, cops came to know that Biswajit had got involved in a powerful mafia group associated with tender and land deal, somehow. An influential BJP leader, he might have opposed a few deals that had angered Pranjit and Co. The dispute ultimately led to the murder of Biswajit. And, it was Pranjit who had fired on Biswajit, a senior police officer associated with the case, said.
