New timing of Assembly from today

GUWAHATI, July 19 - The Assam Legislative Assembly�s daily sittings will start from 9:30 am from tomorrow.

The Assembly today unanimously decided to commence the House proceedings from 9:30 am from tomorrow in place of the 9 am start which was the practice till now.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary today laid the Rules Committee�s proposal for the new timings in the Assembly.

As per the procedure, the House had a seven-day period to suggest amendments. However, all the MLAs, belonging to both the treasury benches as well as the opposition parties, immediately agreed to the proposal regarding the new timing.

Following this, Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass announced acceptance of the new timings by the House and said from tomorrow the House will commence at 9:30 am.

From Mondays to Thursdays, the House will be in session from 9:30 am to 2 pm. Till now the session on these days of the week used to run till 1:30 pm from 9 am.

On Fridays, the morning session of the House will now be from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and the afternoon session will be from 3 pm to 5 pm.
