By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Aug 22 - State BJP leaders have made a beeline to the national capital to see the outcome of the Core Committee of the BJP schedule to be held here tomorrow, as the meeting is expected to elect a new State president for Assam.

The core committee meetings of all state units of BJP will be chaired by BJP national president, Amit Shah.

According to sources, Lok Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa is in the race, which also includes Santanu Bharali, who is currently in charge of the State president post. Lok Sabha MP Ramen Dekas name is also doing the round, besides former MLA Jadab Deka.

BJP leaders and senior Ministers including Himanta Biswa Sarma, Ranjit Dutta, Chandra Mohan Patowary, and Parimal Suklabaidya have already arrived, while few more are on their way, sources said.

Party insider said that while Bharali is being backed by Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, few senior party leaders have opposed his candidature. On the other hand, Tasa is backed by an influential lobby of senior party-men. Ramen Deka, who had earlier served as State president is a strong contender for the post. However, Deka has in the past said that he was not eager to go back to State politics.

Sources said that under the circumstances, Tasa may emerge as the dark horse.
