SILCHAR, Dec 10 - The newly constructed stadium of Lakhipur District Sports Association was inaugurated on Thursday amidst great enthusiasm. Local MLA cum president of the sports association Rajdeep Goala ceremoniously inaugurated the stadium and hoisted the flag alongside other dignitaries. Former Silchar MP Susmita Dev, Pradip Kumar Dey, the first general secretary of the sports association which was formed in 1998, Circle Officer Nikunja Das, SDPO Partha Pratim Das, General secretary of Silchar DSA Bijendra Prasad Singh were present during the occasion.
�It is a mini stadium. The stadium has been completed utilising a sum of Rs 5.5 crore under the Chief Minister�s special package which was sanctioned in 2013-14 during the tenure of former Minister late Dinesh Prasad Goala and the foundation stone was laid by former minister Ajanta Neog. The PWD building division handed over the complete stadium in February this year. The inaugural event was delayed due to the COVID-19 scenario,� Goala said.
The Lakhipur District Sports Association�s first committee was formed in 1998 with its committee headed by former minister and local MLA Dinesh Prasad Goala. A souvenir was also released on the ocassion.
The ocassion was marked by a host of sports activities including athletics meet, mini marathon and cultural events, among others.
