MORIGAON, June 26 - A new skill development scheme titled, Karagaror pora Karikar ( from jail to skilled persons) has already paid dividends in Morigain district. The scheme, which is aimed at providing training to the jail inmates to become self-reliant has benefitted many people.

Rituraj Bora, Deputy Commissioner, Morigaon, mooted the idea of Karagar to Karikar way back in 2017.

Talking to newsmen, he said that the skill development course Karagar to Karikar was carried out on January 26 this year for the jail inmates. Altogether 11 jail inmates of Morigaon have successfully completed the course and certificates were awarded to the inmates accordingly. There are hidden talents among the convicts and undertrials whose calibre must be utilised through the scheme and, as such, the Labour and Employment department will launch the scheme in every jail of Assam. After ending of their jail term, every jail inmate will get a chance to become a skilled person like electrician, mason, carpenter etc. The extra ordinary scheme of skill development is a fruitful scheme and Government of Assam has taken a decision to implement the same in all jails throughout the State.
