New revenue circle created in Majuli district

By Staff Correspondent

JORHAT, Aug 28 - The State government has created another revenue circle by reorganising the existing Majuli Revenue Circle.

A district administration source stated that for the benefit of the people and for better administration of revenue matters, the State government decided to bifurcate the existing Revenue Circle.

The new revenue circle will be named Ujani Majuli Revenue Circle comprising Salmora mouza.

The headquarter of the Circle will be at Jengraimukh. Most of the areas under the Ujani Majuli Development Block will be under the new circle. Dakhinpat Satra and areas like Phulani, Ratanpurmiri, Bongaon will also be in the new circle. The copy of the order was received by the Majuli district administration on Monday, the source said. It may be mentioned here that the administration earlier had submitted the proposal to Dispur for creation of a second revenue circle.

The Government had approved another proposal from the district administration to carry out land survey in the Brahmaputra island and work in this regard has recently started.

The Sarbananda Sonowal-led Government soon after coming to power in 2016 had declared Majuli as a new district, which was formerly a civil subdivision of Jorhat district.
