New regional party in State

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 7 A new regional party with former MLA Haliram Terang as president, was formally floated during a convention at District Library auditorium today.

The name of 51-member central committee was also announced during the day-long convention. The district conveners were also elected in the presence of a sizeable number of party workers.

Christened as People's Front, the new party aims to address the issues and concerns of people of Assam, irrespective of their caste and creed.

The founder president of the party, who is also a former MLA from ASDC, addressing the party workers said that the party would work in the interest of the people of Assam and would aim at bridging the gap between the have and the have nots.

"In the guise of development, people of the State are being deprived of their basic rights. The poorer and the middle class population have been suffering a lot due to the pro-millionaire policy, which cannot be accepted at any cost, Terang said.

He further said that the party through knowledge and empowerment will usher in sustainable development in the State, which will encompass even the poorest of the poor.

Our party has been floated for the sake of regional unity and national integration," he added.
