New Naharlagun-Delhi A/C Express

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 19 Gohpur MLA Monica Bora, along with her husband former minister Ripun Bora staged a dharna at the Maligaon NF Railway headquarters here today in protest against the failure of the Railways to include a stoppage of the Naharlagun-Delhi A/C Express at Gohpur, said a press release here.

The express passenger train is being flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function scheduled for February 20 at Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh.

Bora and her husband demanded that the Railways should also include Gohpur as a stoppage for the express passenger train. The Gohpur MLA demanded a stoppage of the train at Gohpur through memoranda to the Union Railway Minister and the General Manager of the NF Railway in September, last year. Both of them assured the MLA steps to fulfil her demand.

Gohpur, a sub-divisional headquarters town, is a historic place and it has also been emerging as a business centre. Many people from Gohpur visit Delhi for various purposes, which include availing of the healthcare facilities in the national capital.

Many students and youths from Gohpur and its adjacent areas use to travel to Delhi for carrying out their studies and for employment.

Though the train has stoppages at Harmati and Rangapara, each of these places are located at a distance fifty kilometres from Gohpur, the Gohpur MLA alleged.

The MLA submitted a memorandum to the NF Railway General Manager demanding a stoppage of the train at Gohpur.

She also criticised the silence maintained by the BJPs MP from Tezpur R P Sarma on the issue.
