New Morigaon SP stresses on closer police-media ties

MORIGAON, July 24 - Dr Nanda Sing Borkala, a noted poet and author of several books who recently joined as the Superintendent of Police, Morigaon, organised a �Meet the Press� programme on Thursday at his conference hall to share his thoughts and experiences with the local newsmen.

Inviting suggestions from journalists, Borkala emphasised on the need of closer ties between police and press to maintain peace in the district.

Participating in the discussion, journalist Pratap Hazarika spoke about traffic snarls in Morigaon town and urged police to strictly implement traffic rules in the district. Hazarika also pointed to the social chaos arising out of illegal business of liquor and gambling.

The new Superintendent of Police said he will try his best to combat such social maladies.

Regarding the menace of fake news on the social media, Borkala said the State government was seriously considering a legislation to tame the social media, some of which are propagating fake news.

Meanwhile, at the press conference, Additional SP Subhasis Boruah said that the main contractor of the Tiwa Autonomous Council, Bidyut Thakur, has been arrested on charges of gross financial anomalies. Morigaon district police has also launched an operation against anti-social elements who took away three wild buffaloes from the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary during the flood last week. Two buffaloes were recovered from the clutches of the poachers while one was killed by them.
