DHUBRI, March 26 � The District Transport Department in cooperation with different transport associations has started a city service by Tata Magic vehicles from March 22, which has been hailed as a gift to the people ahead of Bohag Bihu.
As informed by Gautam Das, DTO, Dhubri, at present the city service will be available on 5 routes with a total number of 12 vehicles. The decision to start the city service and the passenger fare thereof was taken at a meeting of the concerned organisations along with the chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board and that of Dhubri Gauripur Development Authority on March 20 in the office of the DTO, informed Das.
In this connection an inaugural meeting was held in the premises of Dhubri Dak Bungalow under the presidentship of Jatindra Lahkar, DC and chairman, RTA Board, Dhubri. The meeting was attended by Deepak Chaudhury, SP, Dhubri, MM Sarkar, retired district judge, Himadrit Majumdar, chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board, P Dubey, chairman of Dhubri Gauripur Development Board and a host of other dignitaries.
All the speakers appreciated the DTO and the transport associations for fulfilling a longtime need of the common people of the town.
Earlier, the DTO while explaining the purpose of the meeting sought full cooperation from all present. He further informed that a 12 member advisory committee with Haridas Barman and Rabindra Narayan Neogi as joint convenor was formed to look after the smooth functioning of the city service.
