New-look academic calendar for State schools

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - The Education department has come up with a new-look academic calendar for schools. Replacing the earlier diary format, the government has prepared wall calendars with special features, including social messages.

The calendars for the lower primary and the upper primary sections are being prepared by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Assam, for the secondary level by SEBA and for the HS level by AHSEC.

Till 2017, the academic calendar was printed in book format. But it has been seen that the book has not served the purpose. So, we have decided to print it in wall calendar format so that it can be hung in the principals room and the teachers common room, Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The class timings for all the levels have been kept same from the new session. There will be two breaks. There will be no classes for lower primary after the second break.

The calendar will have directions on the time-frame for completing the chapters.

It will also have instructions for observation of some days like the No Tobacco Day, the Malaria Day, etc. to increase awareness among children. It will have quotes and social messages. Directions for cleanliness have been also given in the calendar.

For Cachar district, an additional five days of leave have been given during the Durga Puja and the summer vacation has been curtailed by five days.

The calendar will also have some dos and donts for ninth and tenth standard students during the summer vacation.

The pre-selection test for Class-X students will be held between October 1 and 10.
