New library declared open

By Correspondent

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Feb 28 - The newly-constructed building of Biswanath Sub-Divisional Library was inaugurated today by Prabin Hazarika, MLA of Biswanath LAC at Madhupur Tiniali here.

A public meeting was also held on the occasion with Jiten Bhagawati in the chair. Addressing the gathering, MLA Hazarika commented that library plays an important role in enhancing ones knowledge. However, he resented that the number of readers in the State was decreasing. Parvej Amin, SDO (C) in-charge of Biswanath said that reading was necessary for psychological and moral development of human beings and a library helped in man-to-man contact and experience-sharing.

Taking part as the chief guest, Uttam Sharma, Director of State Library Services, announced that an e-library was being developed by the department and it would be made open to the public very soon in which around 3,500 Assamese books will be available.

He also underlined the need of organising awareness meetings among the people and students to draw their attention towards libraries. He assured that steps would soon be taken to convert the library into a district library in the near future.
