New lease of life for Byaskuchi rural library

BARPETA, Nov 22 � The century old Bhattadev Milan Library got a new lease of life yesterday. It was rebuilt by the Byaskuchi Bhattadev Milan Samiti and was inaugurated in a solemn function on November 21 by Gadadhar Barman, retired headmaster in-charge of Byaskuchi High School.

The library established in the first half of the 20th century served as the centre of intellectual activities in this area. But it became inactive for the last several decades and the belongings including the building faced decadence in the course of time.

Bhattadev Milan Samiti also organised an educational awareness programme in the premises of the samiti on that day. A meeting held on the occasion was chaired by Khanindra Barman president of Bhattadev Milan Samiti and was attended by large number of students and teachers from all seven schools in Byaskuchi.

Narrating the purpose of the meeting Sankar Baishya secretary of Bhattadev Milan Samiti expressed serious concern at the degradation of standard of education in the area. He informed that Bhattadev Milan Samiti has undertaken a few step to improve the educational scenario of the area and urged upon the people to co-operate in this efforts.

Addressing the meet Sutendra Barman, retired principal of Mushalpur Higher Secondary School lamented that though the Byaskuchi and its adjoining areas were much ahead in education till a few years back due to one or the other reasons it has not been able to cope with the modern standard. He urged upon the teachers to realise their own duties and responsibilities and devote their time and energy towards the cause of nation building through creation of human resource in the true sense of the term. He also advised the students to be attentive to study which is their first and foremost duty.

Haripad Barman, retired teacher of Barpeta Vidyapeeth Higher Secondary School stressed upon the need of creation of a proper environment for academic activities.
