�New India� only when �new NE� emerges: Rajnath

SHILLONG, July 10 - Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said a �New India� will emerge only when there is development and peace in a �New Northeast�.

Addressing the concluding session of the 67th NEC Plenary Session here, Singh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a dream of a �New India by 2022�, which will be �realised with the vision of a New Northeast�.

The Home Minister said the �New Northeast� will emerge with better road connectivity and information technology. �The Northeast needs better road connectivity. The economic potential of the region will be realised with better connectivity, be it national highways or I-ways (information technology),� Singh said.

�If we can provide quality broadband services, youth of the Northeast will find employment opportunities closer to their home. It would also stop the migration of local youth to different areas,� he added.

Singh said the ITIs and polytechnic institutes should play a role in skill development. �NEC should also consider setting up the Regional Institute for Skill Development,� he said.

About security in the region, Singh said: �The northeastern States need to create conducive environment for private investments,� he said.

The Union Home Minister also stressed on accelerating growth of agriculture sector to achieve the Prime Minister�s dream of doubling the farmers� income by the year 2022.

He suggested revival of the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited for marketing of agriculture produce. �The North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project with the self-help groups can extend help to increase the income and employment generation in the region,� he said.
