New ICU ward at Tinsukia�s LGB Civil Hospital

DOOMDOOMA, Aug 27 - A 20-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) was inaugurated at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Civil Hospital, Tinsukia on Wednesday.

The ICU ward was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameshwar Teli in the presence of State Minister for Tea Tribes and Labour Welfare Sanjay Kishan. Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner Bhaskar Pegu and senior officials of the district administration and the Health department were also present.

It may be mentioned here that the district has got its first ICU facility with ventilator almost five months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the nationwide lockdown to boost preparedness to tackle COVID-19. The development also comes at a time when Tinsukia district has reported 58 COVID-19 deaths till now, most of whom were referred to Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, in the absence of ICU facility in Tinsukia district.

At present, the district has a dedicated COVID-19 hospital and 10 COVID care centres with 990 isolation beds. The district has recorded a total number of 4,735 COVID-19 cases, of which 556 are still active, according to the daily bulletin issued by the DIPRO, Tinsukia on Wednesday night.
