SHILLONG, Aug 18 - Satya Pal Malik has been appointed as the new Governor of Meghalaya on completion of tenure by incumbent Governor Tathagata Roy.
An official release from the Rashtrapati Bhavan stated that Malik was appointed as the Meghalaya Governor by transferring him from Goa.
Malik was the Jammu and Kashmir Governor from August, 2018 to October, 2019.
It was during his tenure that the decision to abrogate Article 370 was taken in August, 2019.
Malik is from Uttar Pradesh and has a degree in law.
He was also a Member of Parliament and had held the Aligarh Lok Sabha seat from 1989 to 1991.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted: �Satya Pal Malik Ji, Hon�ble Governor of Goa has been appointed as the new Governor of Meghalaya.
We look forward to welcoming the Hon�ble Governor to our beautiful state of Meghalaya.�
