New Dimapur, Guwahati train

GUWAHATI, Sept 11 � Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi today announced introduction of a new train between Dimapur and Guwahati from November 15, which was announced in the last Railway Budget and declared that it would be christened the Nagaland Express.

After his arrival on a two-day visit to the north eastern State of Nagaland, the Minister told media persons that development of the railway infrastructure in Nagaland and other north eastern States is high on priority in his agenda and his visit is aimed solely at resolving all the issues related to rapid development of the region, an NFR press note stated.

The Railway Minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Railway Board, besides the General Manager of NF Railway Keshav Chandra and General Manager of NF Railway (Construction), Vijaya Kanth. The Railway Board delegation is headed by Vinay Mittal, ex-officio Principal Secretary to the Government of India and Chairman of the Railway Board.

Trivedi went to the Dimapur Railway Station for inspection and took stock of the developmental activities at the station which has been declared an Adarsh (Model) Station by the Railway Ministry. He met various representatives of unions, associations and bodies and received representations and memorandums.

The Railway Minister later held a meeting with Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, his Cabinet colleagues, two Members of Parliament from the State and other senior State Government officials at Dimapur.

The discussion included issues related to the ongoing survey for construction of a new 190 km railway line from Dimapur to Tizit in Mon district of Nagaland via Tuli town and Naginimora. The Chief Minister called for early completion of the survey for the project and expressed hope that the project would receive the sanction soon. The General Manager of NF Railway (Construction), Vijaya Kanth said that the survey would be completed within this financial year.
