New COVID-19 case in Dhubri, State count rises to 35

DHUBRI, April 23 - One Matiur Rahman Tarafdar of Kathaldi Part-III village under Bilasipara police station was today tested positive for COVID-19, taking the total number of infected cases in Assam to 35.

The 62-year-old attended the religious congregation at Athgaon Masjid in Guwahati recently. This is the third COVID-19 positive case of Dhubri district related to the Guwahati event and overall the fifth positive case in the district.

According to district administration, Tarafdar along with ten other persons went to Fakiragram from Bilasipara on March 11 for their onward journey towards Guwahati. They arrived Kamakhya, Guwahati by train to visit Athgaon Kabarsthan Masjid where they stayed for the night.

The next day, Tarafdar and his colleagues attended namaz at Athgaon Masjid where they came in contact with Al Haz Jamal Uddin, who had attended the Nizamuddin Tablighi Jamaat congregation. Tarafdar also met Rahim Uddin at the mosque. Both Jamal Uddin and Rahim Uddin were later tested positive for COVID-19.

After taking part in the Athgaon Masjid congregation, Tarafdar and his associates came back to Bilasipara by train. On March 14, Tarafdar again met with Jamal Uddin and Rahim Uddin at the Bilasipara Jame Masjid. He stayed at home from March 15 to April 6 after which he was put in quarantine at Borkanda Pupils Academy.

�He completed his mandatory 14-day quarantine period and he was found positive with COVID-19 in his second test,� said Dhubri joint director of health Sayed Imdadullah, who added that the samples of many of his acquaintances were also tested.

�We are also preparing to collect samples of several other persons related to the fresh COVID-19 positive patient,� he said, adding that till today, the district has had 406 samples tested out of which five have been found positive, 248 negative, while results of 153 samples are being awaited.
