New court building opened at Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, Nov 29 - The new additional court building, Dima Hasao district was inaugurated on Saturday by Chief Justice (acting) of Gauhati High Court, N Kotiswar Singh, in the presence of Gauhati High Court Judge in-charge, Administrative Department, Justice Manas Ranjan Pathak, Portfolio Judge of the District of Dima Hasao, Justice Manish Choudhury and other dignitaries of the district. The renovation of the building was done at a cost of Rs 1 crore, which has three court rooms and one legal aid cell to extend services.

�The new court complex will help improve access to independent and expeditious justice-delivery to the people in the district,� said Chief Justice Singh during his inaugural speech. He spoke about the preamble of the Indian Constitution. Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak also spoke about how Judiciary was separated from Executive in Dima Hasao as per order from the Supreme Court in 2007.

Justice Choudhury claimed that the new court complex will be very helpful in fast disposal of the pending cases.

Welcoming the dignitaries, district session Judge, Abhijit Bhattacharyya dwelt at length about the separation of the three wings of the government- judiciary, legislature and executive.

Others who spoke on the occasion were, Deputy Commissioner, Paul Barua, Chairperson of NCHAC, Ranu Langthasa, Public Prosecutor Secretary, Dima Hasao Bar Association, Ajay Chakraborty.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Bankim Sharma, Chief Judicial Magistrate. The programme was attended by Executive Members of NCHAC Samuel Changsan, Nandita Gorlosa, Principal Secretary, Amitabh Rajkhowa, Superintendent of Police, Jayant Singh, Council secretaries and officials from various State government departments.
