SILCHAR, Sept 26 - For the first time in 20 years, Barak Upottyoka Krira Sangbadik Sanstha (BUKSS) went for electing its general secretary via the democratic process of election at the biannual general meeting held at the District Sports Association premises on Sunday.
Even as all the other posts were kept outside the ambit of polling, Debashish Shome and Taj Uddin, the two candidates contesting for the post of general secretary pressed for voting by the members. Eventually, Taj Uddin edged past Debashish who has been a general secretary earlier by 21:13 votes.
Riten Bhattacharjee and Dwijendralal Das have been nominated as president and cashier respectively to the sports journalist body. The district committees were also formed on the occasion. Anirban Jyoti Gupta is the new president and Kinkar Das is the new secretary for the Cachar district committee. Former central president of the body Hitabrata Bhattacharjee has been nominated as the central observer of BUKSS.
