New Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court

SHILLONG, Nov 12 - Justice Muhammad Raffiq will be sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya at a ceremony to be held at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. He is slated to be sworn in by State Governor Tathagata Roy.

Justice Raffiq will be the eight Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. He will take over charge from Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew, who is the acting Chief Justice of the High Court.

Thangkhiew was the acting Chief Justice after former Chief Justice Kumar Mittal was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Justice Raffiq was born at Churu, Rajasthan, and entered the legal profession in 1984. He practised in the Rajasthan High Court.

Before his appointment as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya, he served as the acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court on two occasions this year.
