New building of Pragati Samaj inaugurated

GUWAHATI, April 22 � The newly-constructed building of the Pragati Samaj Namghar-cum-Kala Kristi Kendra situated at 9th Lachit Nagar by-lane here was inaugurated recently by Banshi Dhar Das.

Originally, the foundation stone of the building was laid by Bijoya Chakravarty, MP, along with Das on November 4 last year.

Before opening of the door, Namghar Paribhraman with Bhagawat Granth was made seven times with pomp and gaiety by many devotees. Earthen lamps were lit by president Ram Baruah, vice president Padma Gayan and secretary Prafulla Baruah.

The constitution of the Namghar and the construction bulletin published on the occasion were released by senior members of the organisation namely, Chandra Prabha Mahanta and Anu Dol Baruah respectively. Secretary of the organisation Prafulla Baruah, while reading the construction manual, stated that Namghars founded by the great saint, Sankardeva are not only the centres of preaching religious activities but are at the same time centres of learning. The Pragati Samaj Namghar was established on January 15, 1984. He recalled all those who have with great sacrifice established this oganisation. The Namghar was constructed solely by donations offered by the devotees. The secretary offered thanks to all those who offered help in construction of the Namghar. The president of the Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Siddhartha Bhattachariya also attended the programme and expressed his cooperation and help to the Namghar.

After the inaugural function, Bhagawat Granth was placed in the Guru Ashon with naam kirtan by hundreds of devotees. In the evening, the Namghar campus was lit with earthen lamps, a press release stated.
