New building bylaws for Guwahati enacted

GUWAHATI, March 3 � The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has said that permission for building construction will henceforth be given as per the provisions of the newly-enacted Guwahati Building Construction Regulation Byelaws 2014.

�As per provisions of this new building byelaws, permission for building construction shall be issued in two stages. Planning permit shall be accorded by the GMDA as per provisions of the Master Plan and zoning regulations in force and relevant provisions of the act and rules of these building byelaws,� said an official statement today.

The planning permit along with three sets of drawings shall be forwarded by the GMDA to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), urban local bodies and panchayats as the case may be, with intimation to the applicant within a time limit of 30 days.

�Building permit shall be accorded by the GMC or by other urban local bodies or panchayats as the case may be relating to the issue of construction under the ambit of planning permit and provisions of this building byelaws within 45 days from the date of receipt of the planning permit,� it said.

Henceforth, no proposal for building permission under the provisions of previous Building Byelaws 2006 for Guwahati Metropolitan Area shall be accepted by the GMDA, it added.

The new Guwahati Building Construction Regulation Byelaws 2014 framed under Section 4(1) of the Guwahati Building Construction (Regulation) Act 2010 has been published in the official gazette and copy of the newly�notified building bylaws is available in the website of the GMDA.

�GMDA has requested all concerned applicants for the permission of building construction to apply in prescribed Form No. 1 (Part-I and II) of building byelaws, with all supporting documents as per checklist for processing of their proposals. Prescribed Form No. 1 (Part-I and II) along with the checklist may be availed,� the statement added.
