GUWAHATI, Oct 2 - The new body of the United North East Basketball Association (UNEBA) was formed in a general meeting held at the Assam Olympic Association Conference Hall at the RG Baruah Sports Complex here today.
�Basketball is a challenging game. To make this sport a successful one we should be technically fit. We have united here only to take the game to a different level in Northeast,� said Rupam Goswami, chairman, UNEBA.
Rupen Bora, president, UNEBA said, �Basketball is not a popular game in the Northeastern States due to the lack of infrastructure. If you see in Guwahati only private schools are having basketball courts.�
The members of the newly formed body are: Rupam Goswami, chairman; Rupen Bora, president; Mukut Medhi, chief coordinator; Clive W Donai, senior vice president. Vice Presidents: Annusuya Baruah (Assam), Laurin Fela (Mizoram), Motilal Sewa (Tripura), MG Tomcha Singh (Manipur), Teiso Zhaui (Nagaland), Siddharth (Sikkim). Treasurer: Naba Basumatary (Assam). Executive Members: James M Bamun (Meghalaya), Sanatumba Sharma (Manipur), R. Lalnunpuia (Mizoram), BG Chowdhury (Tripura), Bhabajyoti Bhatta (Assam), MM Shah (Assam), Sisil Kalita (Assam). Advisers: Conrad Sangma, MP, Meghalaya; Zhaleo Rio, MLA, Nagaland; Naba Kumar Doley, Sports Minister, Assam; Pulak Goswami, President, Assam Basketball Association; Th Radheshyam, Manipur; Chalrosana, MLA, Mizoram; Samir Chakraborty, president, Tripura Basketball Association.
The new office of the Assam Basketball Association was also inaugurated today by Pulak Goswami, president, Assam Basketball Association at the Nehru Stadium.
