New body of Cachar district chess

SILCHAR, May 7 - The new committee of the Cachar District Chess Association was formed on Sunday.

Interestingly, in the annual general meeting held at the Town Club, Silchar, as many as 10 FIDE rated players were elected in the new committee who would be monitoring the proceedings of the Chess Association for the next two years.

Bibhendu Das (FIDE rating 1631) got elected as the new president and Nirmalya Chakraborty (FIDE rating 1566) became the new secretary. Alok Barman (FIDE rating 1740), Bijon Nath and national arbiter Jaydeep Nag were elected as vice presidents. Two times State champion Soram Rahul Singha (FIDE rating 1911) and Pritam Nath (FIDE 1499) were elected as the assistant secretaries. Deep Das (FIDE rating 1542) was elected as the treasurer of the new body, stated a press release issued here.

�There would be special emphasis on spreading the sport in the rural areas of the district. Also, we would try to organise tournaments, getting new FIDE rated players and arranging facilities for the players,� Bibhendu Das said.
