New automated medical service at NRL hospital

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Dec 31 - The Vivekananda Kendra NRL Hospital recently launched the Hospital Information Management System, a software solution that takes care of end-to-end medical services, an email received here stated.

The system was launched by NRL Managing Director P Padmanabhan in the presence of the Director (Finance), NRL, SK Barua and the Medical Director, Vivekananda Kendra NRL Hospital, Dr Binit Kumar Baruah.

The Vivekananda Kendra NRL Hospital is the first among hospitals in the region to adopt this foolproof automated medical solution, which will not only ensure better medical service, but also improve transparency in hospital management. Every patient will be issued a bar-coded photo identity card which will be used for faster registration. While test results will be uploaded directly, medicines will be prescribed and written directly on the computer screen, which is linked to the pharmacy operating within the hospital premises. The pharmacy, in turn, will maintain a minimum inventory of a wide range of medicines covering all ailments. The software solution has been provided by Wipro Limited.

The 60-bed Vivekananda Kendra NRL Hospital caters to a large number of patients from the nearby villages of Numaligarh. On an average, it diagnoses and treats 35,000 patients annually out of which 70 per cent are from the surrounding villages. The hospital also carries out around 300 mobile medical camps annually in the nearby villages, delivering health care services on the doorstep of the underprivileged, the release added.
