New Assam Science Society office opened

PATACHARKUCHI, Sept 16 � The newly constructed office building of the Patacharkuchi branch of the Assam Science Society was declared open recently by Dr Abani Kumar Bhagabati, president of Assam Science Society, in the presence of a sizeable gathering, including local members, invited guests and students.

The function was attended by Manoranjan Das, MLA of Patacharkuchi, as the chief guest and Dr Dhireswar Kalita, secretary of Assam Science Society.

Earlier, the ceremonial lamp was lit by distinguished guests Khagendra Nath Das, Harihar Sarma and Rabindra Nath Sarma, president of the Patacharkuchi Development Committee.

It may be mentioned here that Manoranjan Das, the present MLA and the earlier MLA of Patacharkuchi, Dr Malaya Barman, had been benevolent enough to offer a grant of Rs 1 lakh for construction of the building. The local people also chipped in with donations.

The meeting on the occasion was presided over by Surendra Nath Lauzary, president of the Patacharkuchi branch of the Assam Science Society, where secretary Mrinmay Sarma stated the objectives of the meeting. Aminul Haque, executive member of the central committee of the Assam Science Society anchored the programme.

Dr Dhireswar Kalita, secretary of Assam Science Society, released a book published by the branch. The book titled Banya Prani Aru Iyar Sangrakshan has been written by Surendra Nath Lauzary. Later, Dr Abani Kumar Bhagabati delivered a thought-provoking lecture which was well received by the audience present.

In the same function, the Patacharkuchi branch of the Assam Science Society along with the local Pragjyoti Club felicitated Nabanita Goswami, who brought glory to Patacharkuchi by securing the first class first position in MSc (Mathematics) under Gauhati University in 2014.
