NAMSAI, Nov 25 � Traditional gaiety and release of colourful balloons into the skies of Namsai by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki marked the formal inauguration of the 18th district of Arunachal Pradesh today.

Nestled in an area of 1587 sq km with 95,950 populations (as per 2001 Census), Namsai district, with its headquarters at Namsai, was incepted by carving it out from existing Lohit district through a legislation in the State assembly in March 2013.

It however started functioning from August 15 last following its declaration as a new district by the State�s senior most parliamentarian and Parliamentary Secretary for Environment and Forests Chow Tewa Mein on the occasion of Independence Day this year.
