GUWAHATI, July 29 - The Assam State Zoo has added a pair of Asiatic lions and six mouse deer to its list of animals. The new zoo inmates have come from Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, as part of an animal exchange programme between the two zoos. In return, the Assam State Zoo will be dispatching four Himalayan black bears and two stump-tailed macaques to the Hyderabad zoo. This is part of a regular animal exchange programmes between zoos. We have now got mouse deer for the first time. The few existing lions in the zoo are quite sick and they were mostly hybrid lions seized from a circus.
