New 30-bed capacity model hospital inaugurated at Jokai

DIBRUGARH, Oct 26 - Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika on Friday inaugurated a 30-bed capacity model hospital at Jokai within Borborooah health block and dedicated it to the people of the area in the presence of Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameshwar Teli.

The people of the area had to wait for six years for the formal opening of the hospital since the start of its construction process in 2012-2013. The health centre with residential complexes for medical staff has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 4.92 crore. The hospital has departments like Out Door Patients, Emergency, Gynaecology, Family Welfare, Laboratory, Child Care Unit, General Maternity Unit, separate general wards for male and female and Operation Theatre among others. The hospital has some 26 staff including four doctors, eight nurses, pharmacists, lab technicians and other para medical staff.

Dr Udayan Kumar Baruah, the Joint Director of Health Services, Dibrugarh said that at the moment about 12 medical tests will be done at the hospital. �In due course with increased manpower we can expect some 30 to 40 different tests. We have already received the equipment and machinery for conducting various other medical tests,� said Dr Baruah. On the capacity of beds, Dr Baruah said that the hospital has a capacity of 30 but at this juncture only 20 beds have been moved in.

Addressing the inaugural function, Pijush Hazarika said that education and health sector plays a major role in ensuring development of a society. �An educated healthy society can only march towards progress. Without education and sans good health, development is impossible,� he said and urged the people to make the best use of the health facilities. He also demanded that the people maintain the hospital as their asset and respect the medical staff.

Union Minister Rameshwar Teli, local MLA Rituparna Baruah, Dr Achyut Baishya, Executive Director of NHM and Dr Udayan Kumar Baruah, the Joint Director of Health Services also addressed the gathering. Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, Moran MLA Chakradhar Gogoi and Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha also attended the meeting among others.
