DIBRUGARH, May 14 - In pursuance of a case pertaining to physical assault, mental torture and wrongful confinement of an elderly man Nouman Shah by his nephews, police arrested one Rifat Anjar Shah (44) and is on the look out for his absconding brother Warish Shah (55) in a Dibrugarh PS Case (No. 733/19 u/s 120B/448/307/341/342/324/325/294/427/506 and 34 IPC.
Both the nephews Rifat Anjar Shah and Warish Shah live together with their uncle and his family members as a joint family at Gabharupathar. As per a police complaint lodged with the SP here by the second son Nouman, the nephews and their family members constantly harass, assault and threaten their uncle and aunt in a bid to force them into vacating the house so as to grab the entire property of their grandfather. When Nouman Shah intimated the matter to the police, the nephews allegedly confined their uncle and aunt and continued to torture them. It needs to be mentioned here that Nouman eldest daughter Dr Zennat Shah lives abroad and the son Dr Naushad Shah lives in Guwahati. Dr Zennat who visited her parents said that her cousins and their family members were inflicting physical and mental torture on her ailing parents in their absence.
