UDALGURI, Nov 16 - Noted Nepali litterateur of Udalguri district, Jagannidhi Dahal, passed away at his Bhanuchowk residence in Rowta on November 14 after a brief illness. He was 73.
Late Dahal was closely associated with the Nepali language recognition movement in the 1970s and as such he was honoured as �Bhasha Senani� by the erstwhile State committee of the Akhil Bharatiya Nepali Bhasha Samiti.
He is credited with having authored three books in the Nepali language. He also edited a number of periodicals and magazines. He worked for Hindi Daily Purvanchal Prahari as a part-time correspondent. He served as an assistant Hindi teacher at Lailongpara ME School from 1975 till his retirement in 2007.
Dahal was closely associated with local clubs and organisations and was a prominent figure in society. His demise was widely condoled by all the local organisations and student bodies, including Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha and Assam Gorkha Sammelan.
He leaves behind three daughters, two sons-in-law, several grandchildren and a host of relatives.
