Nepal Ambassador calls on Sangma

SHILLONG, Feb 27 - Ambassador of Nepal in India, Deep Kumar Upadhyay called on Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma at his residence here today.

Upadhyay, who is on a maiden official visit to the State, during his discussion with Sangma highlighted the similarities shared between Nepal and Meghalaya. Both also discussed about the challenges of the two regions being landlocked and mountainous.

Sangma informed the visiting Ambassador about the initiatives the Meghalaya Government was taking to address some of these challenges. He said that there was a need to have �people driven programmes� in order to succeed in the developmental initiative.

He further said that there was a huge investment potential in the pharmaceutical and textiles industries as these could create new job opportunities.

Meanwhile, Upadhyay assured the Chief Minister that the next time he visits the State he would bring along with him investors and businessmen from Nepal and said that Nepal was keen to invest in Meghalaya.
