IMPHAL, Jan 13 - Opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), the North East Indigenous Peoples Parliament (NEIPP) which aims to resolve all issues and threats that challenge the survival of the indigenous peoples of NE, on Sunday demanded the withdrawal of the Bill as people of the Northeastern region will not accept the Bill in any manner.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here, NEIPP Coordinator Ningthouja Lancha said that the Bill, is more racist in nature and gives more emphasis on foreign immigrants than people of the region. In other words it is an attempt for slow genocide of indigenous people, he alleged.
He also warned that if circumstances arise, the people of North East may demand political autonomy.
NEIPP Convenor W Saratchandra informed that the NE has already been flooded with influx of immigrants. The Bill not only threatens the existence of indigenous people but will have a big impact on its land and natural resources also, he said.
