NEIIPP neither cancelled nor withdrawn: Centre

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Dec 7 - Centre has ruled out possibility of considering re-start of new registration of industrial units under the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP) 2007.

In a Lok Sabha reply to a question by Radheshyam Biswas, Minister for Commerce and Industry, Nirmala Sitharaman said that NEIIPP has neither been cancelled nor withdrawn. However, fresh registration under NEIIPP was suspended from December 1, 2014, as allocations for the schemes under NEIIPP have been fully utilised and liability have been incurred far in excess of the 12th Five Year Plan allocations.

The Minister further added that the Union Government is focused on expeditious and time-bound completion of infrastructure projects. In the North East some of the major projects have been completed or are near completion, the Minister claimed.

According to a report Assessment of State Implementation of Business Reforms, most of the Northeastern States are at the bottom of the heap. Assam for instance is ranked 22 out of 32 with a score of 14.84 per cent. Tripura is ranked 26 (9.29 pc), Sikkim 27 (7.23 pc), Mizoram 28 (6.37 pc), Meghalaya 30 (4.38 pc), Nagaland 31 (3.41 pc) and Arunachal Pradesh 32 (1.23 pc).

The assessment reveals that these States are at different levels of implementation on the 98-point action plan, the Minister said.
