NEHU classes resume, CM to take up issue with Centre

SHILLONG, Nov 9 (PTI) - Students of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) today allowed resumption of classes and administrative work after a month-long agitation, protesting against appointment of the vice chancellor, following Chief Minister Mukul Sangma's intervention into the matter.

Nearly a month after the imbroglio at the university started after appointment of AN Rai as the Vice-Chancellor, the state government took the responsibility to initiate talks between the agitating students and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

Concerned at the loss of academic hours due to the agitation launched by the students since November 1, Sangma negotiated with the students yesterday and said he would take up the issue with the Centre at the earliest
