GUWAHATI, July 15 - Nehru Stadium, the brain child of RG Baruah, will turn 58 tomorrow. On July 16, 1962, the stadium was inaugurated here with an exhibition football match between Chief Minister�s XI and Chief Justice�s XI.
The Chief Minister�s XI was led by the then Chief Minister Bimala Prasad Chaliha and Chief Justice Gopalji Mehrotra led his team.
The other members of the teams were Dev Kanta Barooah, Soi Soi Teron, Girindra Nath Gogoi, BS Guha, PK Lahiri, Hareswar Goswami, BD Sarma, Durga Hazarika, Rajanikanta Goswami, Rup Nath Brahma, Mahendra Nath Hazarika, Chatra Singh Teron, Moinul Haque Choudhury, AN Kidwai, Kamakhya Prasad Tripathy, Siddhi Nath Sarma, SM Srinagesh (Governor), BC Ganguly, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, Ram Labhaya, Baidya Nath Mukherjee, SK Ghose, Sarat Das, PK Goswami, Pulakananda Das, Amjad Ali, Maj Gen Sardanand Singh.
