By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Dec 13 The 166th sitting of the alochana chakra of the Brihattar Panjabari Sahitya Sabha was held recently under the presidentship of Harish Sonowal, a press release said.

Mafizuddin Ahmed read out the proceedings of the last meeting while Dr Krishna Bania made a critical analysis of the poems, short stories and articles read in the last meeting. Bipin Bhattacharya Mahendra Bora, Rajib Ahmed Prabin Saloi and Dharmeswar Sarma read out articles on socio-economic issues while poems were presented by Ajida Begum, Madhuri Bhuyan and Atul Tamuli.

DN Chakravarty, senior journalist, was felicitated on his being elected as the president of the Kamrup Mahanagar Zila Sahitya Sabha. Replying to the felicitation Chakravarty pointed out some basic faults in the Assamese character and referred to the distorted interpretation given by Assamese writers and public speakers in regard the historic radio broadcast of Pandit Nehru in the evening on November 19, 1962.

The former Prime Minister was quoted out of context and a wrong statement was attributed to him that his heart went to the people of Assam. But in the 46-sentence radio broadcast Pandit Nehru expressed the solemn resolve of the Indian nation to repulse the unprovoked Chinese aggression. While condemning the betrayal by the neighbouring country he assured the people of Assam to whom his heart went, that India would fight back resolutely, inspite of the initial setback, to drive out the foreign invaders from the soil of India.

Chakravarty said that Assamese intellectuals and politicians lack thoroughness and are generally averse to perseverance and application of keen eye.
