Nehru birth anniversary celebrated in Manipur

IMPHAL, Nov 14 � The 125th birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the country, was celebrated with various programmes across Manipur on Friday.

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed the day by offering floral tribute to the statue of Pandit Nehru who was also known as an architect of Modern India. A public march, a State level spot painting competition for school children and a meeting was also organised at the Congress Bhavan here.

The �Run for Future� march was jointly flagged off by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and MPCC president Gaikhangam, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister. It passed through the GM Hall Road, Khoyathong Junction, Keishampat and Paona Bazar before converging at the Congress Bhavan. Ibobi, his Cabinet colleagues, MLAs and party workers donning white T-shirts printed with Nehru�s mug-shot participated in the march.

Ibobi also inspected the painting competition for class III to VIII which was participated in by more than 500 students. Later in the afternoon, another function was held at Congress Bhavan with the Chief Minister as the chief guest.

The 2nd Manipur Rifles School celebrated the day as Children�s Day with a colourful function in Imphal. Bhairoda School and Kids Foundation also celebrated the day while Halley English School organised a felicitation cum annual prize distribution day.
