BONGAIGAON, July 23 - Citizens registered their protest and called for remedy of their grievances from the administration, after noticing that their documents, which were submitted along with NRC forms, were dumped at a corner of an NRC Seva Kendra in the office building of Bongaigaon Zila Parishad at Barpara here on July 22 noon.
However, Sanjeev Sarma, Revenue Circle Officer, Bongaigaon, reached there immediately and pacified the agitated rural citizens with his positive action and addressed their grievances without losing time.
We submitted our NRC forms yesterday along with the legacy documents. We were called today by the officials of the NRC Seva Kendra to collect the form submission receipts, and when we reaching here, we noticed that some of the legacy documents, submitted along with the forms, were dumped in a corner outside the centre, said Kamala Kanta Ray (65), a citizen of Majgaon, which is around 6 km away from Bongaigaon town.
This NRC Seva Kendra could not even trace eight NRC forms submitted by the citizens from Sipansila and Majgaon village on July 21. Later the Circle Officer himself got busy in searching for those forms at the centre, before reissuing new forms to them.
Officials of the NRC centres have been instructed about the manner in sorting out unnecessary documents for disposal. Officials of this centre perhaps did not follow the instruction and consequently had to face public anger, said Yunis Parveez Haque, Circle Project Officer in Bongaigaon.
According to Sanjeev Sarma, all the officials of the NRC centres are well-trained on maintaining and monitoring of submitted NRC forms and documents, hence dumping of discarded legacy papers outside the centre reflected irresponsibility and lack of accountability of the officials of this centre.
